Birth Registration of Children Born of Indians Abroad

The registration of births of the Indian citizens abroad is done under the Citizenship (Registration at Indian Consulate) Rules, 1956 and in terms of Section 4(1) of the Citizenship Act, 1955. In a written reply in Rajya Sabha today, Minister of State for Overseas Indian Affairs Gen. V.K. Singh (Retd.) said the Consular officer designated for this purpose, on being fully satisfied, shall register the birth of children of Indian nationals abroad. The registration helps such Indians in obtaining Indian citizenship for their children.
