Kharif Crop Sowing Crosses 998 Lakh Hectares



Area of Pulses, Uradbean, Moongbean, Saybean, Sugarcane Exceeds Normal Area

           The total area sown under kharif crops as on 04th September, 2015 has reached to 998.67 lakh hectares as compared to 979.40 lakh (content) hectare last year at this time.
             Rice has been sown/transplanted in 361.46 lakh hectares, pulses in 108.37 lakh  hectare (urdbean in 26.98 lakh hectare, moongbean in 24.57 lakh hectare) coarse cereals in 179.48 lakh hectare, oilseeds in 178.55 lakh hectare (saybean in 115.35 lakh hectare) and cotton in 114.17 lakh hectare.
             The details of the area covered so far and that covered during last year this time given as follows:

Crop Insurance Period for Non-Loanee Farmers Extended to September 15


The Government has extended period of for non-loanee farmers form July 31, 2015 to September 15, 2015 under National Agricultural Insurance Scheme. This will benefit farmers of the states which had low rainfall or late rain and delayed planting. In the case of loanee farmers the period is up to September 30, 2015. 

Announcing the decision here today Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Radha Mohan Singh said that the decision has been taken in the interest of farmers where delayed /low rainfall has been reported. 

The Minister has urged the State Governments to well publicize the decision of extention of the period for non-loanne so that they can take advantage.
