Setting up of Tourism University


The Ministry of Tourism proposes to set up university to promote Hospitality and Tourism education with an objective to integrate all the existing institutions of Hotel Management & Catering Technology and Travel & Tourism in the university set up. The university is proposed to be set up to award degrees to the courses run under formal education in the institutions under its aegis and to explore new dimensions of understanding of tourism and hospitality education by including related areas of sciences and humanities such as food sciences, history, sociology and culture. 

It is proposed to set up the university at the existing campus of National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) in Noida. The time frame and the anticipated expenditure will be worked out on receiving approval for setting up of the same. 

This information was given by the Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge), Culture (Independent Charge) and Civil Aviation, Dr Mahesh Sharma in reply to an unstarred question today in Lok Sabha.

Government Plan a PR Strategy to Bring Back the Image of India as a Safe Destination



The Minister of Tourism and Culture Shri Shripad Yesso Naik has said that his Ministry would soon work out a PR Plan and strategy to bring back the image of India as a safe destination. Speaking at the IATO interaction meeting here today Shri Naik said, the issue of safety and security of tourists especially the women tourists is government’s utmost concern. He said, the Government recognises the role tourism and hospitality can play as a foreign exchange earner and their ability to create millions of jobs every year and therefore, it is important that both the Government and Private Sector are in same tangent so as to achieve the goals set for us.
