India Post has ventured into the scheme for Sale of branded Gold Coins of 99.99% purity. The scheme was launched in October 2008 in about 100 Post Offices spread across Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu and Gujarat Postal circles. India Post sells the 24 carat coins produced by Valcambi, Switzerland in association with World Gold council, and its business Partner. Presently this scheme is available in 700 Post Offices across India. India Post is overwhelmed by the response received from the public. More than 518 kg of gold has been sold from the Post Offices. Post Offices sell gold coins of 0.5 gm, 1.0 gm, 5 gms, 8 gms and 20 gms denominations.

DoP Releases a Set of Stamps on Four Princely States of India

Department Of Posts released today a set of four stamps on “Princely States of India” as a curtain raiser to INDIPEX 2011, the World Philatelic Exhibition. The exhibition is scheduled to be held during 12^th February to 18^th February, 2011 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. These stamps were formally released by Ms. Rameshwari Handa Chief Postmaster General, Delhi Circle at Sansad Marg HPO. This set of four commemorative postage stamps depicts the stamps issued by the Princely States- Sirmoor, Indore, Bamra and Cochin. These stamps are both archaic and rare and highly valued by Philatelists all over the world.

There were as many as 568 states in India before Independence that ceased to exist after independence. It is relevant to mention here that only forty odd states out of five hundred plus had issued stamps as symbol of their sovereignty. The Postage stamps issued by the states carried the portraits of the kings and princes, regal insignia or symbols. Printed using a variety of methods and colours, the stamps were sometimes overprinted too. However, some of the princely states left a legacy which is valuable in philatelic circle.

Third Set of Stamps on Tennis, Archery, Hockey and Athletics Released

India Post today released third set of stamps at CWG Village Post Office to commemorate the event that inaugurates today. India Post celebrates the spirit of the XIX Commonwealth Games by issuing a set of four stamps (of Rs. 5/- each) on Tennis, Archery, Hockey and Athletics. The set was formally released by Ms. Rameshwari Handa Chief Postmaster General, Delhi Circle, in the presence of Lt. General (Retd.) Ashok Kapur ADG (Games Village) and other senior officers of India Post.

DoP Sets up two Post Offices for Commonwealth Games

ThDepartment Of Posts has established two Post Offices i.e. CWG Village and Main Press Centre, Pragati Maiden to cater to the athletes, delegates, visitors and media persons. These Post Offices are providing very affordable postal and logistics facilities to its customers in a very friendly environment. The Philatelic Sales Counters of these Post Offices are a major hit as a range of beautiful designed stamps (featuring the flora and fauna, sports, art & culture, famous personalities etc.), Philatelic Books and Special Covers are available for sale. On 30.9.2010, the Delhi Postal Circle has issued one Special Cover to commemorate the arrival Of Queen’s Baton in Delhi and very soon two picture post cards will also be issued by Department Of Posts on Commonwealth Games 2010.

9 Indian Telecom Network Becomes the 2nd Larget in the World

Indian telecom network becomes the second largest in the world with total subscriber base of over 670 million at the end of July 2010.With this overall teledensity in the country has reached over 58% mark. In last five years not only Urban Tele-density has risen from 26% to more than 125%, but Rural Tele-density has also increased phenomenally from 1.73% to over 27%. Inaugurating the Curtain Raiser Ceremony of ‘India Telecom 2010’ here today, Thiru A. Raja Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology, said it has been made possible by synergy of conducive Government policies and the entrepreneurship zeal of Telecom industry. He underlined the policy initiatives that led to the present state of reduced tariffs and monumental growth in teledensity enabling common man to afford it and get connected with rest of the world.

A Bouquet of Mutual funds “Ujjawal Bhavishya” in Post Offices Launched

The Department of Posts (DoP) opens about eight lakh new “Mahatma Gandhi NREGS’ accounts every month across the country. Till 30th June 2010 has DoP opened 4.48 crore accounts under the scheme and disbursed an amount of Rs. 3,406 crores in the current financial year. More than 95,000 post offices are engaged in disbursement of wages under MGNREGS.

In a tie up with Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority DoP has started retailing of New Pension Scheme (NPS) through post offices in the country. So far 5186 NPS accounts have been opened in Head Post Offices in 20 Postal Circles.

As a part of financial inclusion, the DoP in another tie up with UTI Mutual Fund has launched “Ujjawal Bhavishya”, a bouquet of mutual funds relating to Retirement Benefits Pension Fund, Mahila Unit Scheme and Children’s Carrer Balanced Funds in all post offices in the country. The scheme has the convenience of systematic investment plan. It will enable investors in small towns and cities to avail investment opportunities through post offices.
