History of Hyderabad streets and locality names.


 Here are the secret behind the Street name in Hyderbad
 1) Nampally:
 Raza Ali Khan, was the Dewan of Nizam’s State in 1670 AD. His Title was ‘Nekh Nam Khan’ A jagir was granted to him, which came to be called nekh-Nampally. This became ‘Nampally’.

2) Begumpet:
 Basheerunnissa Begum, daughter of Nizam II was married to a Paigah noble. She received lands in dowry. The village came to be known as Begumpet.

 3) Khairatabad:
 The jagir granted to Khairunnisa Begum daughrer of Ibrahim Qutub Shah, came to be known as Khairatabad.

 4) Begum Bazar:
 Land gifted by Humda Begum ( the wife of Nizam Ali Khan Nizamul Mulk) to the merchants of Hyderabad for trade and commerce, finally developed as Begum Bazar.

 5) Sultan Bazar:
 After 1933, the Residency bazar was renamed Sultan Bazar, when these areas were returned to the Nizam, by the British (Residency).

 6) Afzal Gunj:
 The V Nizam (Afzalud Dawlah) gifted land to the grain merchants for trade and commerce. The place was named Afzal Gunj.

 7) Secunderabad:
 Named after Sikander jha (1806) (III Nizam). The Village where British troops were stationed.

 8. Ma Saheba Ka Talab:
 Hayat Bakshi Begum, wife of Quli Qutub Shah VI – was called Ma Saheba. The tank constructed by her to irrigate lands of Mallepally village, was called Masaheba ka Talab. Finally it was called MASAB TANK.

 9) Kadve Saheb Ki Galli (lane):
 After a person, who was always angry-faced and talked ill of others. This lane is in the old city.

 10) Himayat Nagar:
 New locality named after Himayat Ali Khan – Azam Jha – eldest son of VII Nizam – Osman Ali Khan ( in 1933). His name was Himayat Ali Khan.

 11) Hyderguda:
 New locality named after Hyder Ali, who was 1st Talukhdar (District Collector) and owned lands in the village formerly the Jagir of Vaheed Unnisa Begum, wife of Nizam. The locality is called after him, as Hyderguda.

 12) Basheer Bagh:
 The garden of Sir Asman Jha, Basirud-dulah – a Paigah Noble, who had a palace at the Garden.

 13) Somajiguda:
 A revenue department employee, named Sonaji, who owned lands and resided in this village. Sonaji became Somaji and the hamlet came to be called ‘Somajiguda’ . (Guda is from Godem a hamlet).

 14) Malakpet:
 Named after Malik Yakoob, a servant of Abdulah Qutub Shah Golconda King where he resided had a market, hence the name Malakpet.

 15) Saidabad:
 A Jagir village of Sayed Meer Momin, Dewan of Golconda (1591).

 16) Abid Shop:
 A Valet and steward of Nizam (VI) Mahboob Ali Khan. This man had his first shop here.

 17) Saroornagar:
 Named after Sarwari Afzal Bai, mistress of Arasthu Jha. Dewan of Hyderabad, who granted a Jagir,and constructed a palace and Garden for her.

 18) Debirpura:
 The village named after Abdul Samad with the titles; Dabir-ul Mulk, a noble man.

 19) Noor Khan Bazar:
 A market developed by Noor Khan, who came from Lucknow, during the time of the II Nizam.

 20) A.C.Guards:
 A locality to the West of Lakdi-ka-pul. The barracks of Abyssinian Cavalry Guards of Raja of Wanaparthy – (1910) (Abyssinia is the old name of Ethiopia, an East African country

Bed and Breakfast Scheme



The Scheme for Approval and Registration of Incredible India Bed and Breakfast/Homestay Establishments of the Ministry of Tourism is voluntary in nature. The main objective of the scheme is to provide a clean and affordable place for foreigners and domestic tourists alike including an opportunity for foreign tourists to stay with an Indian family to experience Indian customs and traditions and relish authentic Indian cuisine.  The scheme’s salient features are:

(i)      The classification for Approval and Registration of Incredible India Bed and Breakfast/Homestay Establishments will be given only in those cases where the owner/promoter of the establishment along with his/her family is physically residing in the same establishment and letting out minimum one room and maximum six rooms (12 beds).
(ii)     The scheme will be on bed and breakfast basis and charges will have to be levied accordingly.
(iii)    Classification will be valid for two years from the date of issue of orders.
(iv)    The quality of facilities and services of the Bed and Breakfast/Homestay Establishment will be inspected and evaluated by the Regional Classification Committee.
(v)     Two categories of classification namely,   ‘Silver’ and ‘Gold’ are given under the scheme.

The number of units under the scheme for Approval and Registration of Incredible India Bed and Breakfast/Homestay Establishments, approved by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India is as follows:

Some State Governments also have their own schemes for approval of Bed and Breakfast Establishments.

            With a view to propagate and promote the Scheme for Approval and Registration of Incredible India Bed and Breakfast/Homestay Establishments, the 05 Regional Offices of India Tourism at New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Guwahati alongwith the respective State and Union Territory Governments conducted workshops in their region.

            There is no provision to grant financial assistance under the Scheme for Approval and Registration of Incredible India Bed and Breakfast/Homestay Establishments of the Ministry of Tourism.

Connectivity - Development of North East


Improvement in road, rail, air, communication, waterways and telecom network are essential for development for North East States. Ministry of DoNER is coordinating various activities including connectivity projects of the line ministries. Ministry of DoNER and NEC also provide support for bridging of infrastructural gaps.

To improve the telecom capacity in the country, the Government has set up International Internet Gateway (IIG) at Agartala, by availing the service from the Bangladesh Submarine Company Ltd. After the formal opening of the International Internet Gateway, Tripura will be the third state in the country to have such a gateway after Mumbai and Chennai. All the North Eastern States are going to benefit from this internet gateway. Comprehensive Telecom Development Plan for North-Eastern Region at a cost of Rs.5336.18 crore under implementation under which mobile connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh and 2 Districts of Assam and in other States of North East along with seamless mobile connectivity along all National Highways and augmentation of District optical fibre connectivity are planned to be completed by March, 2018.

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has formulated the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for North-East (SARDP-NE), for upgradation of 10141 km road stretches of National Highways and State Roads in the year 2005-06. Out of 10141 km of roads included under SARDP-NE, 6418 km has been approved by the Government for implementation under Phase ‘A’ and the Arunachal Pradesh Package of Roads & Highways, and balance 3723 km has been approved only for preparation of DPR under Phase ‘B’. The projects are targeted for completion by March, 2017 for Phase ‘A’ and March, 2018 for Arunachal Pradesh Package.

There are certain projects like East West Highway, Rail link to Gangtok and Shillong which have been pending since long. As far as the road projects are concerned the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme – North East (SARDP-NE) Phase ‘B’ is yet to take off.

Ministry of Railways has taken up 19 major railway projects consisting of 12 new lines, 3 gauge conversions and 4 doubling projects in North Eastern Region. Recently, Ministry of Railways has completed four major projects ie., (i) Harmuti-Naharlagun – connectivity to Itanagar, (ii) Dudhnoi-Mendipathar – Meghalya (iii) Rangia-Murkongselek - gauge conversion – north bank of Brahmaputra River (iv) Lumding-Silchar – Gauge conversion completed. Two major projects about to be completed: (i) Arunachal – Jiribam – Gauge conversion, (ii) Katakhal-Bhairabi – Gauge conversion.

Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken up the following major/important works in North East States:

(i) Greenfield Airport at Pakyong- 89% of the operational area works are completed, 39 % terminal building and other city side works are completed. Tentative date of completion of the project is September, 2017.

(ii) Upgradation of Teju airport – 55% completed. Operational area works almost completed. Terminal building and city side works are in progress. The tentative date of completion is December, 2017.

(iii) Integrated office complex for AAI/DGCA, Guwahati – 99 % works are completed. The tentative date of completion is April, 2016.

(iv) Extension of runway at Dibrugarh – Works awarded. Mobilization in progress. The tentative date of completion is November, 2017.

(v) Resurfacing of runway at Silchar – Works awarded in Nov. 2015. Mobilization in progress. The tentative date of completion is November, 2016.

(vi) Extension of Apron at Imphal – 93% works completed, Apron portion fully completed. Tentative date of completion is April, 2016.

(vii) Boundary wall for Shillong Airport – Tentative date of completion is December, 2017;

Ministry of DoNER, through North Eastern Council (NEC), has approved seven important airport development projects through viability gap funding to improve the air connectivity. It is also providing viability gap funding for unserved airports.

Inland Waterways Authority of India (M/o Shipping) has taken up the following major/important works in North East States:

(i) A permanent New Ro-Ro terminal at Dhubri is under construction and the target date of completion is August, 2016.

(ii) Bank protection at Jogighopa project has completed.

(iii) Construction of two Ro-Ro vessels commenced and tentative date of completion is May, 2017.

(iv) Construction of Ship Repair facility at Pandu, Guwahati commenced and the tentative date of completion is December, 2018.

106 new National Waterways has been declared by the Government in which 20 rivers of NER has also been included in this list.

Media content Violation and Channels go off air

Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said in Lok Sabha that in last three years, around 450 complaints have been received by the government against the channels for airing objectionable contents, out of which action have been taken on 300 complaints,  during Question Hour.As per the action, a number of channels were forced to go off-air for 25 times, he said adding the channel cannot air any content for three to five days during this period.

As per the information furnished by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the number of students pursuing research degrees, including M. Phil and Ph.D who received fellowships, under their schemes, year-wise since 2013, is the following:

The UGC has informed that its fellowship amount, under these schemes, for students pursuing research degrees is Rs. 25,000/- per month for the initial two years and Rs. 28,000/- for the remaining tenure, as per the fellowship scheme. The students are also eligible for matching allowances, as per the fellowship scheme. The fellowships awarded under the Non-National Eligibility Test fellowships , through the UGC grants, are Rs. 8,000 per month for Ph.D course and Rs. 5,000 per month for M.Phil course. The AICTE has informed that the scholarship given to the teachers sponsored under Ph.D[Quality Improvement Programme(QIP)] is Rs.9000 per month, along with Rs. 10,000 per annum as contingency, and the scholarship is in addition to their regular salary and allowances to be paid by the parent institutions.
The UGC has informed that there is no fixed allocation for fellowships and scholarships in its fund. The Central Government releases block grants to the UGC for promotion, determination and maintenance of standards of education. The year-wise fellowship amount released by the UGC and AICTE on fellowship schemes for students pursuing research degrees, since 2013, is the following:

Launching of National Agriculture E-Market


 The Government given approval to  a scheme for setting up of National Agriculture Market (NAM) on 01.07.2015 with a budget of Rs.200 crore. The National National Agriculture Market ,setting up of an appropriate common e-market platform that would be deployed in 585 regulated wholesale markets in States/Union Territories (UTs) desirous of joining the e-platform. Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC) has been selected as the lead agency to implement the national e-platform. Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW) will meet the cost on software and its customization for the States.

As on date, proposals from 12 States/UTs namely Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, UT of Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh for integration of 365 mandis with NAM have been given in principle approval .
It is proposed to launch NAM on 14th April 2016, on pilot basis, tentatively in 20 mandis across 8 States. The schedule for implementation of NAM is as follows:- 
(i) Launch of NAM platform on pilot basis: 14th April 2016. 
(ii) Integration of 200 regulated markets by September, 2016. 
(iii) Integration of 200 regulated market by March, 2017. 
(iv) Integration of 185 regulated markets by March 2018. 

 The grant  in aid released to Gujarat, Telangana, Jharkhand and Rajasthan. Meanwhile, other States like Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Punjab Odisha, Tamil Nadu, UT of Puducherry, Administration of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram have also expressed their willingness to join NAM.

“Setu Bharatam”

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, launched “Setu Bharatam” – an ambitious programme with an investment of Rs. 50,000 crore to build bridges for safe and seamless travel on National Highways.

·        making all national highways Railway Level Crossing free by 2019. 
208 new “road over bridges / road under bridges” are envisaged for construction, while 1500 bridges will be widened, rehabilitated or replaced.
